Character Name: Khoel Leschi
Gender: Male
Race: Keramun
Character Age: 146, appears 19
Height/Build: 6' 8'' 170 lbs
Character Appearance: Khoel's face is very boyish, making him look much younger than he really is. His cheekbones are the most defined part of his face, delicate under the smear of shadow that rims the bottoms of his eyes. Eyes, appearing so tired at all times from the dark under them, have irises a deep green hue outlined dark around their edges. They have dark lashes dusted around them delicately- he'd been teased on more than one occasion his eyes suited a girl more than a boy from their size and other attributes.
His skin is practically sickly pale, even his lips the palest of pink. Complexion usually flawless, it is only marred by its one weakness- the sun. Khoel sunburns easily, practically five minutes of direct sunlight and his fair skin is tinged with a pink. As such, his hair hides about half of his face, silvery black hair falling in uneven locks over his face. He makes sure to keep it short enough that his hair doesn't get in the way of his eyes, so he can see properly, but not so short he feels exposed. Growing up in Malscure, you learn not to hinder your sight any more than the lack of light already does.
All of the Kelamun's clothes are all very nice, to be bland about it. They aren't extravagant or flashy, but well made and eccentric enough for his tastes. An odd clasp there, an interesting collar there, and he's happy. All of his clothes consist of blacks and grays, so the details are often lost on most who aren't looking for it. He almost always wears a coat, no matter the temperature. His coat, as well as all of his clothing, is tailored to his athletic frame. Khoel is built like a runner, all lean muscle and little else other than bone.
Special Power/Ability: Controls shadows
Personality: Khoel is eternally shy, and gets flustered simply by talking to strangers. He stumbles over his words when meeting new people, or talking in front of groups. That usually, of course, means he gets embarrassed, and more flustered, and stutters more. As such, he tries to keep talking to a minimum, and comes off as awkward. He hates that he's so tall- looming over most people outside of his race that he's met, his gangliness making him stand out more than just his stage fright.
The only thing he could possibly hate more than talking in front of more than one or two people, is silence. Awkward silences are almost always his downfall, and he blurts things out without thinking to continue conversation, usually embarrassing himself. With this, he hates secrets, and usually tries to avoid anyone telling him them, or getting himself into situations where he has his own. Khoel is actually quite the secret keeper, but he's always afraid he will blurt one out. With that fear, he tends to accidentally push people away, making many think he doesn't care.
However, one of the things Khoel strives for in his life is friendships- with all his social ineptness, he feels the strong need to have friends. Not that he goes out of the way to make new ones- if they really want to be his friend, they'll tell him. So, even though he doesn't have any that he currently sees in real life, he tries to stay in touch with everyone from his childhood. Khoel loves to write, and lets it show through his eloquent letters to his home town. That's how he gets his words out without hindrance or anxiety. Anyone, including his own family, would first think he was so withdrawn he couldn't express himself if they had never read his writings.
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Likes: Writing- Khoel can get what he wants to say out of himself without the difficulty of getting past his shyness to do so. He writes incredibly well, his prose often having the rhythm and flow much like a poem. His voice is laced strongly through all his writing, even his fiction.
Music- Khoel has a decent voice, but seeing as he's so self conscious, he saves song to be preformed solely for himself. However, he does play the flute as well, and doesn't mind as much if someone compliments that. It doesn't seem as if it's them complimenting him solely, and that's okay. He enjoys all forms of music, and the one thing he enjoys most is hearing exotic styles from different countries.
Cats- Cats are independent, and don't require high energy or high affection. However, they bond to their owner, and they have a soft, laid back relationship with said owner. This speaks to Khoel's personality the best- he doesn't have to work to keep the animal entertained like he would with a dog, and he can just sit in quiet with a feline.
Magic: Any and all forms of magic amaze Khoel, since he was raised only knowing shadow manipulation. The idea that light could spin from someone's hands in dazzling strands around their fingers fascinates him. He would love to learn how it works, but knows with much regret that magic is one of those things that will never be able to be explained.
Just before daybreak: The darkest part of the nighttime hours is just before dawn. After traveling away from Malscure, he missed the comfort of the shroud of constant shadow, and this short time every day reminds him of it.
Dislikes: Silence: Silence freaks him out- he doesn't like wondering what everyone is thinking about when they don't talk. He tries to avoid moments of quiet like this at all times. Which is hard, since he doesn't like talking.
Dogs and hyper people: It's not that he actually dislikes that type of person, they just make him nervous. He doesn't know what they're going to do, and they usually expect him to be on the same level of enthusiasm as they are. Where high strung people only make him flustered, dogs are a fear for him- he locks up when there's a dog around, and hopes it goes away.
Sudden noises: Khoel doesn't, under any circumstances, like to be startled. And the quickest and best way to startle Khoel is to make a loud, sudden noise. He'll jump so high in the air one just has to laugh at him.
History: The Keramun was born to relatively affluent parents- which would be expected, being from a city like Malium. He is used to the comforts of an upper middle class, if not upper class household, though he knows full well what it could be like. His parents, ever since he was very small, had whispered warnings – often completely silly and non conventional – into his ear. If they were strolling down the street, they would have precautions about almost every person on the sidewalk, including people from their own class of living. If he was at a park, they would make very sure he was completely prepared, whisper to him to remember never, ever to talk to strangers no matter how nice they seem.
These worries a constant mantra in the back of his head as he grew up, his parents just didn't understand why the teachers always said Khoel was struggling with socializing. They thought that about eighty percent of their precautions would fall on deaf ears, and the twenty percent he would catch would be enough to make him perfect. Of course, they didn't stop to realize that they were blessed with a child who actually listened, and believed nearly everything they told him. So he grew up, quietly passing all of his classes – probably because he was afraid of the schools reprimanding him. He was never top of his class, or acing the tests, but he passed without really trying, and that was good enough for him.
His parents often went out on outings together without him when he hit about fourteen, leaving him with a house to himself. Their reasoning was that a teenage boy wouldn't have any fun hanging around with a couple of adults, and would much rather stay home and hang around town. It wasn't like their son would ever step out of line, anyways. Which was entirely true, since on each of their little, mini vacations he would only leave the house if he had school, and then rush himself back home afterwards. Not seeing his parents often, he didn't feel like he had much of a support system for anything out of the ordinary. And out of the ordinary it was, when Khoel confided his most grave of secrets to his two friends who he'd had since before grade school. He'd befriended them only because his parents were friends with theirs, and they'd been born in the same exact week. The Keramun boy's secret, however, was that he was gay. His friends were both supportive, trying to give him advice wherever they could, as they were both girls.
When he was eighteen, his parents went off on another typical weekend by themselves. They planned to go see a maze that had been set up for a carnival- all the reviews raving about the size and grandness of it all. So, the two whisked off together... and were never seen again. Khoel was left by himself, his parents having gone missing. He sat alone in the house,
hoping that they would be found. A few months later, the case was closed. People went missing from such events all the time, and there really wasn't any hope of finding them. Soon after that, the bill collectors began sending gentle, but pressing letters about the bills that needed to be payed. Little by little, the house became empty, Khoel selling off his parents belongings to make up for their debt. Before he was nineteen, the house was empty, the debts long since payed. He didn't plan to stay there, wanting to leave the shell of a home behind. The money in his pocket was depressingly meager, as he was too timid to properly haggle the prices on all of the expensive items in the house.

Roleplay Example: Khoel worried his lip, sitting in the midst of his graduating class. His arms were crossed tight over his chest, his legs crossed at the ankle. The valedictorian was in front of them, speaking proudly about her school career. The boy wasn't listening, thinking forward to the walk up to get his paper. He was probably going to trip- be tripped. Then he'd go sprawling across the walkway. People would laugh at him. Everyone would go quiet and stare. Khoel felt his breath become shallower and shallower.
Here it came- his name was two away. He tried to recollect himself, looking around himself nervously. The faces that he'd never gotten to know, the equivalent of someone who you saw downtown but never talked to. All of them were part of his class, all Keramun who had learned in his classes, ate at his lunch. The only ones he knew were his two friends, Chloh and Tess. Those two were seated across the room from him, their last names starting with A. He knew they weren't worrying like he was- they always told him to worry less and enjoy more out of life.
How should they know what's best though? They had both of their parents still there. That was a constant thought rattling around in his skull. He would have to return to his ever emptying house, to no parents after this ceremony. Khoel had no idea what he planned on doing, where he planned on going. Without any ties to the city other than his two friends, who were both moving out to further their studies out of their hometown, he didn't have a reason to stay. There apparently was some bone in the Keramun's body that rebelled against his parents teachings, and wanted to go out and explore the world. Find out what was beyond the text books assertions about what everything was like.
Now he was stiffly walking towards the teachers- when had he gotten halfway across the stage? He got there without consequence and shook hands with the other, fumbling with getting the diploma briefly before smiling, face taut as his fingers wrapped around the roll of paper. Successful, he had been successful. Turning and walking off, he gave a slightly more genuine smile to Chloh and Tess, who grinned back at him in a silent congratulations. They knew all too well how much grief Khoel had gone through with the thought of the graduation.
After the graduation, and the class filed out of the auditorium, Khoel slipped between people, maneuvering over to his friends. They were talking to each other, laughing. He stepped up behind Chloh, putting a finger to his lips in a 'shhh' motion at Tess. Tess' smile grew slightly, eyes quickly going back to Chloh like nothing was going on. He then put both hands on her shoulders, squeezing slightly as he tried to startle her.
