Character Name: Marian Marçon
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Character Age: 36
Height/Build: 5'10" 130 lbs
Character Appearance: Since she was a young girl, Marian has enjoyed the perks that come along with a solid reputation of being a much sought-after beauty. She is used to having all the boys and men fall in line just to catch a glimpse of her famed smirk. But admire this woman long enough, and you gain the sense that there is something... not quite right behind her impeccable appearance and vigilantly coached bearing.
Her dark hair is long, falling in carefully managed waves down her back. She dresses it as her mood dictates; but be it braided and tied into an elaborate headdress or allowed to loosely float and frame her heart-shaped face, it is always perfect. Always.
Marian's delicate face is reminiscent of a porcelain doll's. Her mouth is small and pouts (whether by nature or by conscious bearing on Marian's part is open for speculation) and her remaining features are similarly small and, oddly, nondescript. Yet her eyes- her unsettling, piercing blue eyes- are the crowning glory of her face. Flashing at the slightest provocation, those eyes work in perfect harmony to bring Marian's other lack-luster features to life. Her whithering glares and beatific smiles are enough to bring anyone to their knees.
Marian diets religiously, almost obsessively, and dresses to fully highlight the virtues of her nubile and cat-like figure. She has a taste for luxury and sumptuous fabrics. It is not unusual to see her garbed in a silk gown to lounge on a lazy afternoon, dripping in gems and stroking the fur of a newly acquired coat or mantle.
As she ages, Marian has had to resort to excessive means to keep her pale skin creamy and peerless. Many of her more recent exploits have taken a toll on her beloved looks. Some of her childhood beaux would be shocked to find her somewhat sallow and wasted- just don't tell her that.
Special Power/Ability: Manipulation of surrounding energies
Personality: Marian is extremely manipulative, as her strange powers would suggest, and she will stop at nothing to get her way. She craves attention and power. Once she has set her sights on a goal, Marian has been known to bribe, coerce, blackmail, kill, and sleep her way to what she wants. Anyone can- and in her mind, will be- her next tool or toy.
To Marian, who is basely cruel, other lives are disposable. Even those whom she genuinely loves are not safe once they cross her. People that she considers as inconsequential receive little to none of her attention, even when her own financial and social position seem precarious. However, when she finds herself truly in need, Marian has the uncanny ability to transform herself. She can be charming. Complimenting. Alluring. And, occaisionally, kind.
Following various social and emotional disasters, Marian's personality and actions have become increasingly erratic and desperate. For example: if you publicly snub Marian, there are a few ways she might respond. She might toss a scathing remark your way. She might destroy you business interests. Or, she might try to drain your life energy. (Hope that she chooses the last option BEFORE she subjects you and you loved ones to unspeakable tortures.)
Marian does not fight openly. She prefers to kill those who cannot defend themselves from her power, and avoid those who can harm her. She will not hesitate to flee a threat. (Although she might return unexpectedly to finish the job.)
To say that Marian is a paranoid schizophrenic with a personality disorder or two would not be far from the truth. She has suffered more than one mental breakdown, which has rendered more dangerous and unpredictable than ever before. Unless you have something of value to offer, it is wisest to stay clear of this powerful woman's way. Even then, your safety is not guaranteed.
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Likes: Red velvet, sparkling diamonds, and the occasional chardonnay. Not to mention obsessing over her failed love affair with a (now "expired") nobleman named Christian Loren. She also adores the flute, dancing and showing off at the most exclusive balls, as well as using others to her full advantage. Marian enjoys traveling as well.
Dislikes: Her one and all consuming hatred is focused on a woman named Eleanor, the late wife of the late Christian. Even after she watched her die and later robbed her children of their father, Marian cannot stop hating Eleanor. More dislikes include commoners, cheap liquor, lizards, and anything more beautiful or more successful than herself.
History: Born in Dimant, Dirys to a Lady Corneille Marçon, Marian was branded as a bastard lovechild right from the start. Her mother died soon after her birth; Marian was sent to be raised by her uncle, Lord Luc and later by an aunt, Lady Marie Duncan, and her husband Richard.
The spoiled Marie raised Marian to be alike to her in thinking and in bearing. Appearances and etiquette were emphasized, as well as a haughty sense of superiority. Richard was largely uninterested in the girl, until he discovered she possessed an unusual power and a gnawing need for his approval. He coached her to be as ambitious and ruthless as he himself was.
When Marian was about 19, she met and fell in love with the handsome and promising Christian, nephew to a powerful noble. They experienced a stormy and brief affair. Marian had fully intended to marry the youth, but Christian realized the girl's manipulative ways were dangerous and unhealthy; he promptly ended their engagement.
A few years later, Marian observed as Christian met and fell in love with another woman. Eleanor opposite of Marian in both looks and disposition, although she did have a similar magical power: she was able to manipulate the life energies of others, but chose instead to abstain from its usage. Everything about Eleanor drove Marian insane. She had Christian, she had power, she had wealth... And after a few years, Eleanor had the beautiful babies that Marian would never have. So Marian killed her. And then she killed Christian.
Ever since then, Marian has been floating through life in a vague haze. Occaisionally she is reconciled with her family, and has moments of wealth and seeming social stability in her beloved hometown of Dimant. But more often than not Marian is reduced to exploiting rich men and living in Solv and Emasia.

Roleplay Example: Marian stumbled into the darkened street, furiously trying to scrub away the tears before they appeared.
Richard thinks I’m dangerous, that must be it. He’s trying to get rid of me, she thought. There was no chance that Marian could accept that she would be an embarrassment to anybody. Especially to that power hungry, brown-nosing, cowardly excuse of a man.
“Everyone knows the Duncan name is NOTHING!” She shrieked at the darkened windows of her uncle’s mansion. She briefly considered breaking back inside, to avenge her humiliation… But then dismissed the thought. There would be no good in destroying a perfectly good resource. Once Richard was back on her side, at least, he would still be beneficial to her gradual re-emergence into the good graces of Dimant society.
Besides. Her aunt would be so put out if she had to find a new husband.
Marian turned away from the mansion and carefully stumbled along, trying to conjure up a plan. She had no money, no prospects… The only hope she had was to find her way to Emasia and shack up with that new-money-good-for-nothing who, suddenly, looked like he would finally be good for something.
The inky black sky was tinged with a lightening purple by the time Marian found a promising establishment. A few couple men, no better than boys, were loitering outside a mansion waiting for their masters to reemerge from a slowly dying ball. When they looked up at her in interest, Marian knew she had found easy marks.
“Gentlemen!” She cried warmly, trying not to slur her words. “I’m sorry to have kept you waiting. Bring me my carriage- I have grown tired of this little party.”
The boys hesitated. “Uh…”
Marian’s eyes flashed. “Bring me a carriage,” she hissed suddenly, all attempts at politeness gone. “You miserable wretches. I’ll drive it myself if I have to.”
When neither servant moved to go, Marian turned her attention to the eldest. He looked like he had authority over the other. A cool smile played on her lips, and she took a step toward him…
The boy suddenly doubled over with a gasp.
“If you don’t give me what I need, I have no use for you,” Marian announced flatly as the younger boy stared on in horror. Her smile broadened. “Watch your friend die, little one.”
Minutes later, Marian reclined against the soft velvet cushions of a luxurious coach, humming softly to herself. She watched Dimant disappear with a pang of regret.
At least, she thought to herself, at least I know I’ll be back.
