Here you will find a detailed guide on all of inherent races of Setsuwa. This list is almost solidly set in stone, but new races are occasionally recognized and added into the world directory. This first post includes a variety of details explaining the information on this page, as well as genetic information and classifications.
Please take note that the physical descriptions and the descriptions of these racial communities do not apply to all members of that race. Those are just the most common or prevalent features of that race.

Please note: While you may know all of this information, that does not necessarily mean your character will also know all aspects of it.
Here is a quick break-down of the information you will see in the directory.
All of these are based on research done on average communities of these races, and may not apply to every member of the race.
As explained by Endy in the Monster Directory creatures in Setsuwa fall into four type classifications: Elementum, creatures that represent a deity's element; Magia, creatures that are identified as magical; Mysticum, creatures with a more spiritual or otherworldly identity; and Natura, beings with no extraordinary properties, who rely on their physical aspects. These all apply to Setsuwan races, as well.

And finally, the Family, the most specific classification for these creatures, is where there is a difference. All of the races fall into a different Family called "Mortalis" which is reserved for sentient creatures with the thought-processes necessary for societal building and thinking.

Species Name | Aasimar | Average Life Span | 130 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 20 years | Inherent Powers | Notable strength, high charisma, attractive. | Physical Traits | This being looks like the most perfect of humans, a serene face, an unmatched grace. Due to their good looks they are often courted to be models or actors. Not only are they good looking, but are known to be quite tall, the absolute - and rare - minimum height in females seeming to be 5'6" and the minimum height for males being 6'2". Most Aasimars tend to be closer to seven feet tall. | Description | Aasimar are typically very charismatic, and often take on leadership roles. The few that find they cannot live up to that hype, or ones that don't match up to the level of attractiveness known for their race find themselves becoming secluded loners. Unlike most races, almost all Aasimars fall into these two categories - unless raised in non-Aasimar environments.

Species Name | Ajatar | Average Life Span | 115 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 21 years | Inherent Powers | The ability to travel through shadows from one place to another, shape-shifting. | Physical Traits | The average Ajatar stands at seven to eight feet for a male, and six feet for a female. Members of the Ajatar race always have dark hair in their true form. Their skin, on the other hand, ranges from the strangest of green, blue, purple hues to basic human colouration. | Description | Ajatar are ghoulish creatures native to the continent of Eleusia - they adore the shadows and the concealment in illusions. Ajatar tend to have a difficult time staying in one place and have a difficult time realizing their identity because of their tendency to shape-shift uncontrollably throughout puberty. Ajatars that learn how to control their power very well make excellent scouts and spies. | Class | Magia vanufora aliecorpum mortalis | Characters of this Race | |
Species Name | Anthro/Anthromorph | Average Life Span | 65 | Age of Sexual Maturity | 12 years | Inherent Powers | Powers inherent to their animal side. | Physical Traits | An Anthro's form is a combination between the animal form and the human form, usually taking the shape of a human with very animalistic qualities that can range from something as simple as a tail and ears to something as complicated as a completely furry body, paws etc. The more mystical version of this race is the Anthromorph, who looks almost completely human - aside from the fact that they have an ability to morph into their true form - an animal.
| Description | One would assume that Anthros and Anthromorphs would bond over their shared animal natures... Alas, one would have too much faith in the goodness of a Setsuwan's hearts. The two are bitter enemies, having waged race wars for years. Species Name | Avian | Average Life Span | 80 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 16 years | Inherent Powers | Flight, dexterity. | Physical Traits | Avian combine the features of humans and bird - most notably raptors and eagles. They have the build of a humanoid, but lanky with talon-like feet, clawed hands and a wingspan equal to their height. They come in a variety of natural colours, but some younger Avian have been known to dye their wings. | Description | Upon hatching as children, Avian remain helpless without their parents, who must teach them how to walk, fly - and most importantly - survive. Avian are a race born for survival. They strive for perfection and accept nothing less, making their communities extremely successful - and full of pressure. Avian are typically not well-suited to social situations, as many of them do not understand the benefits of wasting their time on such trivial things.

Species Name | Caveborn | Average Life Span | 175 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 20 years | Inherent Powers | Durability/fortitude, immense strength. | Physical Traits | These heavy-set humanoids are an odd mixture between the flesh-and-bone mortals that run rampant in Setsuwa, and stone golems found in ancient temples. Caveborn tend to have their deep tanned to black skin dotted with rock - and occasionally even rare gems - which act as a natural armor for them. | Description | Caveborn are rewarded with sentient life after withstanding mortal interaction and the elements by their home cave. These caves are always inherently magical, and each can produce varying numbers of Caveborn a year. Caveborn are extraordinarily durable and unique. They have a tendency to be very quiet, pensive folks who find difficulty making strides in complex or social occupations. Instead they tend to focus their powers on heavy labour jobs like mining and railroading.

Species Name | Crescent | Average Life Span | 85 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 15 years | Inherent Powers | Notable magical skill, most particularly with healing magics. | Physical Traits | The large majority of Crescents have pale white skin and matching hair. Inter-breeding has caused some rifts in the pattern, and although the white skin has stayed true, the hair has not. It has varied to many new colours, though most predominantly silver and black.
| Description | Some legends tell stories of moon-people, who drifted down to our planet with the intent of seizing control. When they realized how weakened their powers became on our planet, they tried to return home - but were unable to leave. No one really believes the legend, but it adds an attractive quality to the Crescents. | Class | Magia astrafora daemonium mortalis | Characters of this Race | |
Species Name | Demon | Average Life Span | 95 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 13 years | Inherent Powers | Transformation to and from demon form, the ability to traverse the Underworld without damage to their physical or mental state. | Physical Traits | Even if a demon were to transform itself in Setsuwa, none of the natural creatures would be able to see it. In fact, only those with Ephilroa in their veins - or the Gods - can see the truth in a Demon's form outside of the Underworld. So while walking the Earth, they take the form an Earth-bound being, or themselves before becoming a demon. | Description | Demons are born of the most tortured souls in the darkest depths of the Setsuwan Underworld. Made of people who sold their souls or who had committed crimes horrible enough to warrant afterlife-long torture. These beings found their way out one of two ways: They either crawled out of the depths themselves, or were offered a contract to return to the surface... | Class | Mysticum mortefora daemonium mortalis | Characters of this Race | |
Species Name | Dwarf | Average Life Span | 60 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 0 years | Inherent Powers | Unbreakable bones, ability to withstand extreme temperatures, impeccable night-vision. | Physical Traits | A short stocky humanoid creature. As most human-like creatures, Dwarf appearance varies in the way of skeletal structure, hair, eye and skin colour. | Description | There was a point in history where Dwarfs were hatched solely from eggs in Dirys, made only to work in the mines. One dwarf, however, was unhappy with this life. He dreamed of something more - and started a revolution. Nowadays, although free, many Dwarfs prefer to live in dark, deep underground mining cities rather than bright areas. They provide most of the minerals to the countries of Dirys and Aissic. They can easily stand extreme cold or heat, which allows more choice when attempting to find a dwelling. Dwarfs rarely live in cities with many other races, though there are a few who hold more dreamer-like qualities.

Species Name | Elemental Elf | Average Life Span | 200 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 40 years | Inherent Powers | An inherent ability related to their element - the power of which becomes stronger or weaker depending on their mix of genetics. | Physical Traits | Depending on their gene pool they can look very similar to elves or to Embodiments. Either way, the Elemental Elf will hold some traits reminiscent of its element. | Description | An odd cross-breed of Elf and Embodiment, these creatures are about as diverse as humans. Some are extremely powerful physically, and others are very adept at magic. This variation allows for Elemental Elves to occupy many different paths in life. Although very widely accepted in current times, when they first appeared in Setsuwa they were shunned and attacked. Pure elves still carry quite a lot of hatred for the Elemental Elf's kind. | Class | Elementum (dependant on element) evinsprium mortalis | Characters of this Race | |

The difference between the appearance of and elf and a human lay in the large pointed ears, slender face and the fact that blonde hair and blue eyes are the most common for elves. | Description | These beings have been known to live for extremely long amounts of time. Their aging process is so slow that it is difficult to tell any age detail apart in a ten year span. This can be extremely stressful to elven mothers having to raise infants for many years at a time, so Elf-only daycare centres are common. An elf's skill is highly dependent on genes and the environment raised in though they are born with dextrous hands. Species Name | Embodiment | Average Life Span | Technically speaking, Embodiments are immortal. Their life wanes away through the years, making them weaker, but they can choose when to physically age as long as their powers are still strong. They cannot be killed by another person without their allowance of it until around the second century of their life. (ex. A fire embodiment going out in the rain when they are 100 would die immediately, a fire embodiment going out in the rain when they are 20 would not be very strongly affected) | Age of Sexual Maturity | Unknown, as they choose when to age themselves. | Inherent Powers | The ability to take the form of the element they are an embodiment of. Control of the same element. | Physical Traits | These beings look like normal humans, perhaps with a few exaggerated features or some odd characteristics reminiscent of what they are an Embodiment of, which are things they have no control over. | Description | Called a distant descendant of deities themselved, embodiments can turn into their element or whatever they are an embodiment of at will, and they can control what they are an embodiment of... Species Name | Fairy | Average Life Span | There is no real average, some fairies live to 5, some live to 200. | Age of Sexual Maturity | 3 years | Inherent Powers | Notable dexterity, can change any inanimate object they touch to fit their size. After enough practice and learning, they can also do so with an animate object. | Physical Traits | A small creature, normally around 7.5-15 centimeters (3-6 inches) tall with ornate wings around half the size of the body (though it does vary). Fairies are very light, the largest fairy in recorded history being half a pound. The general belief is that fairy skin is always pale, but that varies occasionally as well. Hair color and eye color range from normal colors like brown or blonde to green and blue. Fairy hair color does not change as it gets older, and they do not get wrinkles. | Description | Fairies have the most irregular life-span of all beings on the planet. They can live for a few years, or a few hundred - and not only that, but they never change in appearance. They are born out of flowers and the way they appear at birth will be how they appear for their entire lifespan. Some fairies come out of their flowers looking like children, some as adults, some as elders. Whichever way they come out, however, they are underestimated because of their size. Species Name | Human | Average Life Span | 80 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 14-16 years | Inherent Powers | Extreme adaptability, versatility. | Physical Traits | Humans vary quite extensively, they can be a number of different heights, weights, or can have a number of different hair, eye or skin colour. However, most commonly, humans will have brown hair and eyes. | Description | Humans are an extremely adaptable race, ready to change for any environment. They seem inherently happy around most species, even if they don't get that same base response. Although humans are looked down upon, many of the more judgmental races would prefer one to a cross-bred species. | Class | Natura carofora mamalia mortalis | Characters of this Race | |
Species Name | Kinaroe | Average Life Span | 150 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 15 years | Inherent Powers | General magic and sorcery. | Physical Traits | This race stands out as having the widest gender difference of any race in Setsuwa. While the males tend to be rather simple - sturdily built, dark hair, sleek face, average heights - the women are a little more curious. Women of the Kinaroe race have skin so pale that some of them appear to have nearly translucent skin. They are quite short, the tallest female Kinaroe being around 5'5". Kinaroe women are nearly weightless, and bruise very easily. All Kinaroe do not have blood flowing through their veins, but instead a substance called Exold, which comes out of the body in shimmering strands of gaseous liquid - some believe this is the soul. | Description | Kinaroe are told to be one of the original races of Setsuwa, and their distinguished history would definitely support such a claim. The legends say the Miynie crafted the Kinaroe herself - her idea of a perfect being. She put a small portion of her life-force into the first ones, which has since been passed down through many lines of the race. Only female Kinaroe can give birth to more Kinaroe, making them the preferred gender for parents. When a female Kinaroe becomes impregnated, a silvery orb will remove itself from her body, which she will then have to care for for many months until it bursts to bring the child into the world. Species Name | Lamini | Average Life Span | 160 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 35-40 years | Inherent Powers | None | Physical Traits | Lamini are extremely noticeable - perhaps because they are rare in Setsuwa... Or perhaps simply because they have pale green or teal skin paired with shock-black or white hair. They tend to have very slender bodies, and do not show fat very easily. | Description | One of the first races of Setsuwa, and they may perhaps become the first to become extinct. Although the Lamini alive in the world now are very powerful - nearly all rich, famous, powerful or a combination of the three - they are growing more and more sparse as Lamini women have a difficulty birthing: Only one in every one hundred Lamini women can bear children full to term. Due to this, many groups have tried to push pairings of pure Lamini women and men to add to the population. | Class | Magia umbrafora huma mortalis | Characters of this Race | |
Species Name | Mermaid / Merman | Average Life Span | 50 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 12 years | Inherent Powers | Transformation of fins to legs when they breathe unenchanted air on land. | Physical Traits | An elegant creature with a human head and torso with a fin instead of legs. Mermaids/Men fins can be beautiful, long, graceful and coloured with beautiful designs - or plain, stubby and rather ugly. It varies as much as a human's appearence. Skin tone and hair colour changes depending on the colouring on the fin. | Description | This creature was sort of a genetic accident. Due to the enchanted waters of Submiere allowing for land-dwellers to breathe under the surface, any child born in that water came out a bit... Wrong. Fins and all. At first, people thought it was an issue that needed to solved, or cleansed. Eventually, however, they came to terms with the new race and began integrating it into their society - something still being worked on to this day. | Class | Natura aquafora piscia mortalis | Characters of this Race | |
Species Name | Quadell | Average Life Span | 150 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 25 years | Inherent Powers | Ambipedal, high endurance, night-vision. | Physical Traits | The Quadell is a kind of quadrupedal humanoid that also has the ability to walk/run/sprint on two legs - although they are far faster when on four. Quadell are notable for skin scaly to the touch and eyes closer to reptilian slits than more conventional almond-shapes. | Description | Quadell, while intimidating upon first sight, tend to be social and easy to befriend. By the same token, however, they are very territorial of people and places, and can be provoked by small happenings. These behaviours lead many other mortals to call the Quadell “paranoid”, but their territorial behaviour has been justified over years of being targeted by colonists.

Species Name | Seanglex | Average Life Span | 120 years | Age of Sexual Maturity | 18 years | Inherent Powers | Notable magical and physical power, though completely unremarkable Dexterity. | Physical Traits | A beautiful angel-like race with four to eight wings instead of the typical two. Seanglex tend to have pure white hair or white hair tinted with a pale colour, matching the white feathers found on the wings. Skin colour ranges from white to a dark tan and often has a slight discoloration to it that gives it an otherworldy glow. Seanglex have lithe builds, which makes their dextrous disadvantage all the more sad. Unfortunately their eyes have a cloudiness that decreases their vision to a level that does not hinder day to day activities, but does have an affect on reading and aim. | Description | Like many creatures that appear later in the Setsuwan timeline, many believed the Seanglex were a genetic mistake. Luckily for them, they were a beautiful one and lauded for their fresh new look. It was discovered later, however, that there were depictions of Seanglex in ancient texts and tombs, and even the word of Ayniea spoke of their beauty. Since the discovery of their connection to the religion of Aurcaele, Seanglex have been able to take over the other angel-like races (Dove anthros, most notably) in population with ease. | Class | Mysticum vidafora alatia mortalis | Characters of this Race | |
Species Name | Tulprid | Average Life Span | ? ? ? years | Age of Sexual Maturity | ? ? ? years | Inherent Powers | Extreme empathy, other traits dependant on circumstances of birth. | Physical Traits | Tulprid appear exactly as they are willed to, so it is impossible to tell if they are a Tulprid or some other race. | Description | These mysterious beings are not born in any conventional way. Instead, they come into being when enough (thousands, millions of) sentient mortals wish for them to exist, where a need must be filled, when a hero is necessary... Tulprids tend to appear in dark times to change the world. They exist only as long as they are believed in by someone.
