Character Name: Skylar Rozen
Gender: Male
Race: Elemental Elf - Water
Character Age: Appears 13, but is actually just over 500
Height: Uh...4'10? Whatever the regular height of a 13-year-old boy would be.
Weight: 96 lbs
Character Appearance: Typical Aquens have eyes reflecting the water they were born to be a part of, and his parents continually tell him that his eyes are just greener than average, and that some parts of the ocean are as green as his eyes. He knows that’s not why his eyes are green; he was born in the middle of a forest in Niseca, and his eyes were obviously confused by the strange surroundings, so they turned green rather than blue. Similarly, his hair is not the typical blue, but has darkened into purple over the years. His parents call him unique, rare, gifted… He calls himself defective.
His skin is characteristically pale, usually covered by an overly-large jacket and a long pair of matching pants. His feet are generally covered by boots that look too large for his feet, or maybe even no boots at all. He also wears a hat at much as possible in an attempt at hiding his hair, which he sees as a mistake rather than a gift. He generally has the look about him as though he isn’t quite there, like he’s lost in thought.
Special Power/Ability: Like all Aquens, Skylar can manipulate water, if only slightly. He is much more focused on the speed, lightness, and agility that his race is generally adept in.
Personality: Skylar is quite a kid, old before his time and quite resourceful. He’s lacking in the social area though and he often has quite a hard time having a regular conversation with someone. In the middle of speaking he often drifts into thought and he has on more than one occasion simply walked away from the person he was speaking to without even realizing it until later.
Sexual Orientation: Bi-Sexual
Likes: Running, swimming, water, fish, rain, sailing, being listened to, being treated fairly, having enough to eat, being clean, salty breezes
Dislikes: Scorching heat, fire, hurricanes, spicy and sour foods, being looked down on, death, betrayal
History: Skylar’s parents were both Aquens with lovely light blue hair and eyes the colour of the ocean on a calm day. When he was born with his bright green eyes and hair that was dark and eventually changed to purple they were shocked. Skylar himself was horrified, but they tried their best to ease his fears by telling him he was a ‘unique snowflake’ or something along those lines. He never bought into it, and as such he often got into fights with his parents, accusing them of that or this that could have caused his strange uniqueness. He spent more of his life on the streets than at his home, and about as much time in the water or by the coast as he could spend without shriveling into a prune. Recently, he has decided to explore the world and, without a word to either of his parents, that's just what he did.
Roleplay Example: The sun was shining, the birds were singing, small creatures were frolicking in the fallen leaves... Today was a very nice day. It was warm, but there was a cool wind to prevent anyone from getting too hot, and there was no rain or lightning to be seen. Skylar smiled. He had decided that he really liked this whole Realm of Beginnings place; it was such a diverse area, what with its strange lake, the place where everything was frozen, and he had even heard there was a cloud that one could walk on. It was certainly an amazing area. He liked Submiere better, but that didn't mean he couldn't like this place too. It was like a little bit from all the other continents all in one relatively small area, like a gift-basket full of free samples.
"Oof," he muttered, in that way all people tend to do when they run into something, rubbing his forehead. "I seriously need to stop doing that." And by 'that' he meant getting caught up in his thoughts as he had just done, which had subsequently caused him to run into something. A very large, hard something. It turned out to be a tree, which wasn't very surprising considering where he was. He looked around and was surprised he hadn't run into any number of things during his wandering, but he decided that he ran into this one either as an act of fate, or simply because it was the largest tree he had ever seen, ever.
Looking up into the vast canopy, he noticed something sticking out that shouldn't have been there. Sort of like a 'one of these things is not like the other' moment. Of course, being a tree and all, it had many, many branches, and lots of them stuck out at odd angles and made it look quite interesting. But there was one that was sticking straight down, and it had no leaves on it whatsoever. Maybe it was a dead branch or something? It was possible; maybe the lightning from the storm the other day had snapped it. Having nothing better to do, he decided to go and check it out.
As he neared the 'dead branch' he saw that it wasn't a dead branch at all, but rather a ladder leading up into the canopy. How strange. Naturally, his curiosity was piqued by this strange, random ladder, so he grabbed a rung and started climbing. Now, one would say 'it can't possibly be all that hard to climb a ladder' but one must never have climbed a rope ladder if one were to say that. Skylar was one of those people who had never even seen a rope ladder, let alone climbed one, so when he put his foot on a rung and the ladder swung and tipped him backwards, he was so surprised he fell right off and landed on his back in the dirt. Ouch.
Standing up and brushing himself off, he decided to try once more. He wasn't going to be beaten by a silly ladder, no sir-ee. So he firmly grabbed it once more and put his foot on a rung for the second time, this time gripping harder when it swung in, rather than letting go. After a few moments it stopped swinging so much, so he decided to risk another step and he pulled himself up a bit but had to stop as it swung once more. For some silly reason he hadn't thought it would swing once he was already on the darn thing. Oh well, atleast this time he hadn't fallen off. You know what they say, 'fool me once, shame on you, but fool me twice and shame on me.'. Not to say the ladder was fooling him or anything, but if he had fallen off twice in a row, he would have been quite embarrassed.
So from there he slowly and carefully made his way up the ladder, his curiosity outweighing his 'dislike' of heights and his hurting arms, which he had to use to keep himself from falling. Rope ladders, he decided, were evil. He was about to start wondering what was at the top that would be worth the terrible climb, but he knew that if he gave his imagination an inch it would take a mile and he would probably get so caught up in his thoughts that he would let go of the ladder and fall to his death, and he really didn't like the thought of falling to his death. For heaven's sake, he was still at the ripe young age of five-hundred (or thirteen, as he appeared to be); he was much too young to die.
After what felt like forever, but couldn't have been more than ten minutes, he pulled himself onto the platform like a man dragging himself onto shore after nearly drowning at sea, and he had to lie there catching his breath for a few minutes before he could even look around. His arms were not used to this kind of exertion and they felt like someone had lit them on fire, which wasn't a very good feeling at all. Good lord, atleast getting down would be easier, if only vaguely.
Rolling over and pushing himself to his feet, he smiled at the feel of wonderful, lovely, solid ground. Then he decided it was about time he paid attention to the place he had just spent a thousand and one years (figuratively) trying to reach. It was.... incredible. He couldn't think of any other way to describe it. It was like the canopy of every tree in the area was connected into a giant tree-top house or something! The branches were close together and relatively flat so they could be walked on, and there were literally chairs made out of the branches at random intervals. He could even see what looked like a bridge connecting one tree to another! Wow, he wouldn't have been able to imagine something this cool if he had tried, which he hadn't.
Gosh, this place was so neat. He saw squirrels and birds and other little animals jumping in the branches and singing their little animal songs, and mixed in with the soft whispers of the leaves it sounded like a symphony of beautiful, natural sounds. He decided immediately that he would have to come here more often, even if it hurt his arms and that stupid rope ladder was out to get him. It was just too amazing to only see once.
