Although you are quite sure this is a shop, it looks more like some kind of antique library. Spindly shelves reach to the rafters which hold ornate chandeliers that are used to cast all of the light in the place. There are several wooden benches to sit on, and an old rickety ladder on wheels sits at the end of one of the high-shelves. Its hard to believe anyone would climb up such a thing... Although it looks as if you might be able to run right out with one of the books without paying, the store has anti-thief magic... And you do not want to know what happens when you mess around with anti-thief magic.

Skylar had come to Rielcia for no reason in particular, although he had heard from people that the book shops around here were fantastic. Which was what had brought him to this shop today. He had not read a good book in quite some time, and he was hoping to stock up for when he continued wandering around and wouldn't encounter a book store for some time.
When he walked into the store he was surprised by its appearance, but it was a pleasant surprise; it made it feel like an old library and there were few places Skylar enjoyed being more than in a library. He walked up and down the aisles and picked out books that interested him, making sure that he had enough money before he brought them up to the counter.
In the end, he had to carry the entire Potions trilogy, the Beginner's Guide to Magic, Cooking Techniques, How to Make Your Garden Beautiful, and Magical History to the counter and he wondered how he was going to carry all of them without breaking his arms or his back. But he would have to worry about that later, because he was feeling esurient and didn't want to put any of them back. After all, who knew how long it would be before he came across another book store?

As the boy neared the counter, a tall, sharp-featured woman with a thin pair of spectacles eyed him, with the sort of look that clearly read "I am sizing you up." The woman loved books, loved them as if they were her children 9which she had neve rhad, because she felt children were needlessly messy and disorganized, not at all like books), and as ironic as that was, she had a strong, prejudiced dislike for children.
Even those that appeared to be children, when in fact, they could very well not be.
She raised her chin slightly, giving the small boy a stern look from over her specs and sharp nose, looking for all the wolrd like the Severe Librarian she wished to appear as. Quite the collection of books he had there. And he seemed to be having some difficulty in carrying them.
Sighing loudly, not wishing to wait any longer for him, she gave but the flick of a wrist and the books floated gently out of his arms, landing neatly on the counter top as she gave them a quick surveying look with a mild scoff.
"Are you sure these are within the scope of your reading comprehension level, young man?" she asked wih a slight mocking air to her tone. It wouldn't matter if he complained about it - customer service aside, she was the best bookkeeper the owner of this establishment had ever known. He could care less how the customers liked her.
Not waiting for the boy's answer, she glanced the titles over once more, before returning her gaze back to the young customer. "Your total will come to 22,956 Gold." she announced with a satisfied tone and a challenging smirk. "I do hope you can afford it."

Skylar was surprised when, halfway to the counter, the books flew off his arms. He noticed they headed over to the counter, where they stacked up neatly in front of a stereotypically grouchy, nasty-looking, librarian-type woman. The woman looked over his selection and asked, with the typical air of superiority, if he had an adequate reading comprehension level to read he books he had chosen. He bit back his retort and simply waited for her to tell him how much he owed her. He had been expecting another nasty remark, and he was not disappointed. She spoke as though suspecting he had no way of paying that much money for the books, all the while saying she hoped he could.
People like that pissed Skylar off. In fact, that kind of snide attitude was one of the only things in the world that angered him to the point where he wanted to cause somebody else harm. But he didn't, of course, because despite it all he was still firmly against violence and refused to even think about such a thing. Instead he took out his coin pouch and easily paid for the entire purchase, waiting for the woman to accept the money and put his books in a bag so he could carry them.

The woman was very slightly disappointed at the lack of a fiery reaction from the little whelp - it would have just made her day to have something else to insult him on. Regardless, he held his tongue, maintaining a composure uncommonly seen among children, and produced from a little pouch the adequate amount of Gold required to pay for his purchase.
The Librarian huffed, begrudgingly accepting the payment with another wrist-flick, causing the gold to vanish instantly, and then snapped her fingers. A nearby doll, hanging on the wall, rose to life at the snap, approaching the pile of books and quickly stuffing them within a cushioned bookbag, before returning to its position on the wall and resuming its lifeless state.
"Your purchase has been accepted. You may feel free to leave." she announced, biting off each word.

Skylar watched with interest as the doll came to life and put his books in a bag. That was incredible! And slightly creepy. Actually, when he thought about it for an extended period of time it seemed pretty creepy indeed. It wasn't alive, yet it could move at the snap of the woman's fingers. He was slightly envious of the snide, monstrous woman, but then he thought of how much her life must suck if she was always this horrible and he was no longer jealous of anything she could possibly do. With her kind of attitude, she probably had no friends but the books on these shelves.
Speaking of the woman, she told him his purchase was accepted and he could leave now, sounding as though she was very annoyed that he had in fact been able to pay for the books and she hadn't had to kick him out for being poor or some such thing. He smiled at her and took his bag of books from the counter, surprised at how heavy it was. Atleast this way he didn't have to carry them in a stack. He decided he needed a backpack. That would make traveling so much easier. "Thank you," Skylar said to the woman. "Have a nice day." He then half-carried, half-dragged his bag of books out of the store.
