Muerte Muerte is the land of the "dead", the damned - a joke to the rest of the world - a place that's only worth comes from some of the materials mined and not from the people within. The land itself is an immense, nearly unlivable desert, spotted with a miniature variety of mountains and valleys. For the most part, Muerte is tiresome and flat in geography - but less so in it's inhabitants. The animal and monster life of Muerte is extraordinarily varied... And unfortunately for the humanoid residents, they are not afraid of sentient creatures and tend to take what they want. Thanks to both this and the political unrest of the country over it's period of existence, Muerte is not well-populated. Those who do choose Muerte as their home (or are forced to live there simply based upon birth) tend to be impoverished and angry.
Politics Muerte has an everchanging political system as the people continue to back revolutions intended to better their lives. Unfortunately, each revolution seems to leave them worse off than the last. Currently, the Mot people are lead by Elias Harel, an immensely powerful dictator who promised to defend the Mot territory from Dirys and Liesdro's theft, who promised to bring Muerte into the new era, who promised equality... Of course, none of those things happened. Harel dealt with Dirys and Liesdro - simply to bribe him into allowing their siphoning of Mot resources to continue unfettered. He destroyed the old royal city and built a new spiraling, world-class city, brought Muerte into the new era... And only brought along his closest allies and sponsors, damning equality.
Word tells of a new revolutionary uprising being birthed in the ruins of the old city, one aiming to allow the people a voice in Muerte... Though most Mot people do not support the idea of yet another revolution, and believe that it's possible for things to improve as things "settle in".
Military The military of Muerte is not built for facing the world, thanks to the fact that it is completely decimated every time revolution strikes the country again. Instead, it is a glorified, intensely powerful local police force that controls it's people with an iron fist.
Cities (7)
- Aekam - Being the only city in Muerte that borders directly with another country, Aekam is the hub for all Mot trading - which, there really isn't much of. The few things that Muerte exports go through Aekam and into Dirys' large shipping facility to be sent throughout the world. In exchange for shipping their materials 'oh so generously', Dirys keeps sixty percent of the profits made. However, they do contribute some minimal resources in the form of food, water and medical supplies. All of this goes through Aekam once again, and must find it's way to all of the other cities in Muerte. To do this, many residents of Aekam have taken up the best paying job in the country (aside from ruler or ruler's friend, of course), and work to deliver monthly supplies to all Mot cities. Unfortunately, while being a job that pays well, it is also incredibly dangerous. Most residents of Mot are destitute: Starving, sick, just plain poor - and they will do anything for a larger share of the resources than they receive. Including murder. Still, the money paid for having such a dangerous job makes it worth it to most.
Population: 4311 adults Size: 49.11 acres Exports: --- Famous/Infamous: Muerte Trading Hub.
- Arazus - Unlike most of Muerte who have a tendency to squander their imports more quickly than they can get a second shipment, Arazus is never low. The people in the city live very humble lives, asking for no more than they could ever need, and hoarding away everything else. They refuse to even use the materials sent for building houses or furniture, and instead use the only thing they have an abundance of: Sand, rock, and heat. Almost all of Arazus is made of a special glass compound made from the harsh sands of Muerte and a very rare rock found only underneath the miles of catacombs nearby. The workers in Arazus are the only people in Setsuwa who know how to build this compound, and have been offered every sum of money one could imagine for the secret to unbreakable glass, but they have never given it away.
Population: 1775 adults Size: 37.01 acres Exports: Limited amounts of unbreakable glass. Famous/Infamous: Glass-blowers, hoarders.
- Emoce - The most beautiful city in Muerte (which isn't saying much) has recently become one of the most dangerous - even considering the animal attacks of Guadaro and the shoot-trespassers-on-sight view of Surif. Why? Because, being the only self-sustaining land in all of Muerte, it has become a hot commodity in the eyes of Dirys and Liesdro, who think it a good idea to 'liberate' the city from Dictator Harel. Due to this, Harel has sent heavy military guard to the city - increasing the intensity with which his new laws are being enforced. The city itself is worth it, however. Not only is it filled with beautiful homes made of glittering stones and brick, but the forest nearby is the only splash of green in the desert, and seems to have been fertilized by the Underworld itself, leaving it lush and full of resources.
Population: 5771 adults Size: 50.12 acres Exports: Minimal fruits and vegetables, tapestries. Famous/Infamous: Notable greenery and healthful foods.
- Guadaro - Upon entering the city of Guadaro, one might be in awe of a sky full of strings, ropes and platforms... But that awe would only last until the telltale growls and caterwauling of the Xankwile - in fact, of many Xankwile. The city of Guadaro has been the target of their attacks for decades upon a decades, and many refuse to ever leave their homes in fear of being torn to shreads or poisoned to death. To compensate for their shut-in personalities, the people of Guadaro have devised various systems for communication and transport, all hanging in mid-air. The first layer is a simple, wire-thin network of strings that go from house to house, all meeting in one central point of the city. Every single end of string meets with a tin can, allowing for the inhabitants of Guadaro to communicate over long distances. The second layer is a system of ropes and pulleys, allowing for packages to moved across the city without threat of the packages being attacked. The final layer is set solely on the high roofs of the city, and is a rail system with platforms that allow people to move to other buildings. In recent times, however, the Xankwile have become more intelligent and have devised ways to climb to the roofs, leaving many to give up on the futile attempt to leave their homes. Many wonder why the people of Guadaro don't just leave the town, but the Mot are a very prideful people, and after losing so many tens of cities to barren land and animal attacks, they know they must stand their ground.
Population: 368 adults Size: 15.20 acres Exports: --- Famous/Infamous: Authors, Xankwile attacks, tin-can communications, air-drop imports.
- M'taer - Although the city of M'taer didn't exist until fifteen years ago, it is the capital of Muerte - all thanks to Dictator Harel. Upon his conquest of Surif, he claimed nearly all of the land Surif had as his own. He raised thick walls with majestic gates, rehabilitated the destroyed Surif land into large estates and handed them to only his closest friends and allies. Although construction continues, the help of magic-users (those too terrified or poor to say no) has sped it along and lead to a large amount of the city to be completed. Along with being the home to all of the nobles in Muerte, M'taer houses the world's newest and most renowned equine race track, which holds fundraising events every few months to buy the city everything it needs to become a top-tier world location. Of course all of this is at the expense of less influential Mots, the people who are barely getting by. Thankfully there are a few nobles with a conscience who risk everything to work in an underground black market, where they offer goods for a much lower price than Harel's approved shops.
Population: 613 adults Size: 57.58 acres Exports: Race & Breeding Equines. Famous/Infamous: Dictator Harel, black market underground, equine racing.
- Necesa - A very simple town sitting on a salt inlet near the border of Muerte and Liesdro that survives thanks to the latter's provision of water from The Basin nearby. The people of this town find themselves poor - even in comparison to the rest of Muerte. Their city was destroyed through Dictator Harel's warring to become the leader of the country, and due to their support for the reactionaries - they were punished. They receive the smallest amount of resources for survival, just enough to keep them alive, but not enough to keep them from suffering. Emoce and Arazus were banned from providing Necesa even the materials to rebuild their homes, leaving those in Necesa to try and rebuild using adobe made from the clay in the ground and the beating of the hot sun. Much of the city is still not back to a liveable standard, forcing many residents to immigrate to Liesdro - an illegal act under Harel's law.
Population: 9238 adults Size: 61.32 acres Exports: --- Famous/Infamous: Historical support for the crown, illegal immigration.
- Surif - Once the capital of Muerte, Surif now lies in ruins, the victim of a terrible war only fifteen years ago. A war that took the bustling city spread over hundreds of miles and turned it into a gigantic pile of rubble. Some of the charming brick buildings still stand, but even their joyful welcome mats can't help the depressing feeling one gets from the rest of the abandoned town. The only living things found in Surif are the smallest of animals who can fit through the barbed iron fence that surrounds the entire land - a fence guarded by twenty-four hour patrol. Some vandals still manage to get past, but only get far enough to leave gross characterizations of Dictator Harel pinned to the barbs. The one mark of Surif left untouched - and not by Harel's choice - is the Tower of Euryd. The tower is charmed by incredibly powerful magic that keeps it from even being chipped or painted, leaving it the only perfect thing in such an imperfect place. Some believe that an underground tunnel from M'taer leads into the tower, but no government official has been able to find any truth in the rumour, no matter how hard they try.
Population: Size: 114.34 acres Exports: --- Famous/Infamous: The Revolutionary War, Tower of Euryd.

Notable Locations
- Ancient Catacombs
The ancient catacombs were the place where any peasants or soldiers killed would be left to rot. All throughout the walls lay disgusting bones and other remains of all of the people who had died. The use of this place ended a thousand years ago, and yet there still seems to be some flesh on some of the bones - could someone still be hiding bodies here? Or is there some sort of preservative keeping the bodies fresh? Either way, this place is a absolute maze... Although the entrance corridor goes on for fifteen feet, it soon splits into going right, left, forward or... down. Which way would you risk?
- Death Worshipper's Temple
This temple looks like some sort of ruined church from the outside, on the inside however is a completely different story. The inside of this temple is decorated with deep reds and purples, banners and other ornaments hung from high reaching ceilings that arch in from walls covered in stain glass depictions of Ephilroa and the deity of their country and of the afterlife.
At the centre of the temple, with backless pews spiralling out from it, is a magnificent statue of Streike in all of her glory. Surrounding the statue is moat-like pit where one can give the deity offerings and pray for what they feel they need to have.
- Deserted Mausoleum
This old mausoleum has been left untouched for many years - in fact locked. But all of a sudden a few months ago, the locks disappeared and the door was found ajar... Inside lay several blank tombstones as well as a few closed stone coffins... One of them looks like it was opened recently.
- Emoce Forest
The only forest with any trace of green in all of Muerte. This foest, although inhabited by mostly dead or dying plants, still has a few fighting to keep alive. There are a few splashes of green among the browns and blacks of death, and this allows it be one of the most beautiful places in Muerte.
- Graveyard of the Living
Although most countries have a Graveyard to host their dead, Muerte does not. In fact, a Graveyard was never built... This one just seemed to appear when the ancient city of Gratus was destroyed. No one dead has been buried here, the Muer people being too superstitious about it to take the chance, and yet there are several headstones and creepy mausoleums decorating the area... It is said that in each of the graves lay someone who died and wasn't buried anywhere, and that the although the souls have left, the bodies still awaken for revenge when disturbed...
- Ruined Torture Chamber
In the old days of Muerte, this was a heavily used chamber filled with the most frightening of painful devices. On the walls hang things like the breast ripper, and the flaying knives. All stained with blood and rusted to the point where they are purely red and brown. This was destroyed many years ago however, and torture is banned in Muerte. Yet still these sit here, and in an area open to anyone... And -- is that a fresh blood stain?
- Tomb of the Vampire
A frightening tomb that is told to be home to vampires, one of the most dangerous monsters roaming the face of Setsuwa. No sunlight can enter into this place, it appears, and the stone walls are engraved with pictures of vampires consuming their victims... You're quite sure you want to come here? You want to go through the many hallways and into the many tombs of vampires that aren't as dead as they should be? ...After walking down the steps to enter, you come to a choice of going forwards or left.
- Tower of Euryd
This mysterious tower in Surif is one of the last remaining pieces of the town. At the base of it lies a door, but its locked... Perhaps if you knocked a certain way you might be able to enter. If not, there are still several demolished benches in the area you could sit on - or maybe just look at? Really, there's not much left of the whole town but for the tower. Perhaps you should just go back through the underground and return to M'taer.

Notable Residents
The following are a list of characters who would be living in this country that you may choose to incorporate into one of your roleplays, or your backstory, as an NPC.
Elias Ruraidh Harel A male Tiefling at age 51 who was born in Surif, Muerte and lives in Necesa, Muerte. · Powerful · Demanding · Impressive · ◊ Muerte Dictator ◊ Elias Harel as a child was disappointed in Muerte. The country that held so much power because of what it stood for, because of what its ruling Deity stood for, always fell to the wrath of Malscure. And so, as he got older and he studied warfare and politics, he got the idea into his head that the Muerte people needed someone of Muerte descent and not Malscuri descent to take control. Which was exactly what he did. He used his undeniable charisma and increasingly possible promises in order to have a large enough following to stage a very successful coup. Since then, Harel has barred Malscuri born or raised persons from living in Muerte, and has even set up labour camps for the people whom try to break this law. His book – The New Rule – has become as precious as the Testament of the Deity and there is supposed to be one in every household. He took Muerte out of the battle for Atton, surprising many, but he is in fact planning a regroup and an internal attack on the Malscuri forces once the war comes closer to its end.
